To Light
It's an absolute joy to introduce you to Relative Lighting, which I created from a pure desire to light up the world. Along with my amazing team, we've quickly evolved the brand and service offerings to meet the needs of our clients. Relative exists for the discerning consumer, for people that care about the details and those that desire quality in the spaces where they live, work and play.
The Relative Lighting story is anchored in my belief that everything is, well… relative.
Equipped with an entrepreneurial spirit, a deep appreciation for design and a pull towards lighting, the spark for Relative was born.
Like most creative trades, lighting is very personal. It has the ability to evoke emotions and can literally change the way we feel. In nature, lighting is dynamic and provides a reference for navigating the world. It's the one element of a space that affects every other thing, including our human bodies. Illumination is so powerful!
After spending a few years in full-service interior design, I decided to align with my “true north” and focus solely on lighting. I trusted my intuition that there was something unique to explore. There was something different that didn't yet exist and had the potential to influence an industry.
Without a business plan or any specific goals, I began collaborating with homeowners and designers to create decorative lighting plans for their projects. Based in artistic expression, decorative lighting is the jewelry of the home. There's a language that's created with lighting. This dialogue is always felt, but not always acknowledged. When it feels right, we call this “lighting that connects.”
By providing a layer of design acumen for the selection process, product support to help avoid costly mistakes, and fun (because it really should be), the idea began to take off. I was quickly embraced as a design partner on many projects. My passion for premium quality was resonating. In doing what I love, I discovered something special.
There was certainly a business to be built around decorative lighting design and specification. But to scale successfully, I needed layers… many layers. With this clarity, I set out to build the foundation.

In a stroke of serendipity, my backgrounds in IT and full-service interior design converged to inform the next building block for Relative. I am no stranger to disrupting outdated processes with technology and quickly realized that the lighting industry was prime for innovating. I made a conscious decision to structure our system for project management, not just order management. This detail is at the heart of the Relative difference and is key to providing the very best support to our clients. The Lounge is where our clients can create projects, shop, track details and access resources...all in one place. Pull up a chair and come visit us there!
The addition of architectural lighting to the Relative portfolio is a major achievement. Equally important to overall design, this is the layer of fixtures intended not to be seen. Yep… the best quality recessed fixtures disappear! When paired thoughtfully with decorative lighting, the architectural layer provides significant interest and control. With every other detail of your home being intentionally considered, this layer of lighting also needs the same care. It must not be overlooked. Along with expertly trained lighting designers, we guide you through this topic and create custom deliverables for your projects.
Robust and flexible logistics options are essential for our clients to coordinate their unique projects. With strategic partnerships in place, we can gracefully move products across the US with methods and timing that complement your needs. Complete with storage and delivery, we manage your items until they've reached their final destinations. Not to worry, we've got you. A true end-to-end experience requires closing the loop on everything… even light bulbs.
